Game Description:

We're proud to offer another popular and highly collectible Addams Family pinball. Designed in concert with the Paramount Pictures blockbuster movie hit, this game is one of the most requsted on our list and always a popular classic with collectors, and families alike. This game definitely has something for everyone, from the most skilled pinball "wizards" to the casual player or enthusiast.

Addams Family is a modern classic pinball game designed by Bally's famous designer Pat Lawlor, who designed such other popular classics as Twilight Zone,
Roller Coaster Tycoon, Funhouse, Monopoly, Road Show, and No Good Gofers, to name a few. Addams Family is accepted as the most popular pinball machine ever made, breaking all records for production, earnings, and consecutive months (and years) that it appeared in the monthly top 10 list of most popular pinball machines! Even years after it's initial release, the game still is a top earner in the arcades and locations all over the world, and most pinball operators still won't part with the game because it makes too much money! (It still earns even more than many newer pinball machines that have been released since Addams.)

Game Play: Where do we start? There's so much fun stuff to do on this game- it is literally packed with toys, gadgets, gizmos, and accompanied by great sounds, music, lighting effects, and even authentic custom speech from the original actors from the popular Addams Family movie, including Raul Julia (Gomez), Angelica Huston (Morticia), and Christopher Lloyd (Uncle Fester).

This game features gadgets such as:
  • Four flippers!
  • Three-ball Multiball(TM) mode.
  • Two-ball Multiball(TM) mode.
  • A rotating Bookcase that moves to allow balls access to the hidden Vault
  • A moving hand that actually comes out of the playfield and snatches the ball away!
  • A replica of the Addmas Family's Electric Chair
  • A "haunted" flipper which shoots the ball all by itself!
  • "The Power"- "haunted" magnets that grab the balls and fling them in all different directions!
Shoot the "Bear Kick" ramp to light the Electric Chair, then shoot the Chair to play one of the 13 modes that this game offers! Complete all the modes and you get to "Tour the Addams Family Mansion"! This is a "wizard" mode where the game basically goes crazy! All Jackpots are lit, extra ball is lit, all awards are at maximum value, and topped off by crazy Three-Ball Multiball(TM) play! A definite test of your pinball playing skills!
Shoot the Bear Kick ramp when lit and the ball is diverted to a small flipper on the right side of the playfield, where the game actually hits the ball for you! The small flipper shoots the ball across the playfield and into the Swamp, where you get five times the usual points!
Get the ball to "Thing" in the upper right corner of the playfield and watch as the "Thing" hand comes up out of the playfield, grabs the ball, and disappears!
This game is one of the must fun and challenging games ever designed by Bally, and even though the multitude of rules and modes on this game will be more than enough to keep you busy, the game play is fun and straightforward enough to be entertaining and fun for any players, regardless of skill and age. These are the true signs of a well-designed pinball, and we're sure after a game or two, you'll agree!

Overall, it's no wonder why this game is such a classic. With so many fun things to do on the game, it will surely keep you entertained and always coming back for more!

Game Condition:

This particluar Addams Family game is in overall excellent condition. It has had below-average use during it's lifetime, extremely good upkeep, and this really shows from the excellent condition of the playfield and parts, as well as the whole game overall.

Here is a detailed list of work that has been done on this game, followed by more details on condition:
  • We have logged just over 70 hours in the restoration of this game.
  • Playfield top and bottom surfaces stripped of parts and assemblies for proper cleaning- right down to the bare wood and paint. Playfield surface hand cleaned, hand polished, and hand waxed with top-quality Carnauba wax.
  • All playfield parts have been removed and hand cleaned, or replaced with brand new parts where necessary. This includes light bulbs, posts, ramps, pop bumpers, wireform ball guides, flipper assembiles, under-playfield ramps, target banks, bumper assemblies, lamp PC boards, ball trough and associated parts, and any other parts that are installed on the playfield.
  • All metal parts removed from playfield have been hand cleaned and polished for original bright shiny finish.
  • Main ramp has been removed and fully disassembled into all of it's individual parts (including wiring hardness and switches/plugs removed) for proper cleaning. Ramp cleaned, polished, and all associated hardware and accessory parts cleaned, polished, and reassembled.
  • Under-playfield plastic ramp removed and fully disassembled/cleaned just like main ramp on top of playfield.
  • Rotating Bookcase assembly completely removed from game and 100% disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled. Even wiring and switches were removed/cleaned. Brand new bookcase base installed.
  • "Thing" hand assembly completely removed from game and 100% disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled. Coil, bracket, and wiring inside hand was even removed, cleaned, and replaced. Wiring was replaced with brand new wires for added reliability (worn/broken wires on this unit are a common problem on Addams Family games).
  • "Thing" hand scoop that kicks ball back into play from Thing hand was strengthened by welding joints to reinforce them and prevent any breaking in the future. Scoop welded at sixteen crucial stress points for added reliability. We'll guarantee this scoop won't break for as long as you own the game!
  • Electric Chair and Swamp kickout scoops completely removed and 100% disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled. Both scoops were welded to reinforce their joints and prevent breakage/separation down the road. We'll guarantee these scoops won't break for as long as you own the game!
  • Brand new metal kickout hole protector installed for Electric Chair kickout scoop- prevents wear to playfield wood edges around kickout hole.
  • All playfield plastic posts cleaned by hand with detergent and brush to remove any wax, dirt, grime, or leftover cleaner. They once again look like new!
  • All five pop bumper assemblies on this game were removed, 100% disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled. Any worn or broken parts replaced with brand new parts.
  • All four flipper assemblies completely removed, 100% disassembled, cleaned, and rebuilt with brand new factory-original parts, and reassembled. Brand new original Williams flipper coils installed on ALL FOUR flippers! Flippers tuned and adjusted.
  • All new white rubber rings installed on playfield.
  • All light bulbs on top and bottom of playfield, and elsewhere in game, removed, cleaned, and replaced. Brand new light bulbs used as replacements for old worn, discolored, or burned out bulbs and flasher bulbs.
  • All light bulb inserts (or "lenses") in playfield surface cleaned and polished for maximum shine and light penetration.
  • Brand new chrome steel pinballs installed in game (game uses three total).
  • Playfield flat plastics (screened artwork) all removed, cleaned, polished, and replaced.
  • Fender washers installed under top and bottom edges of slingshot bumper plastics to protect them from cracking/breaking from airborne balls.
  • Plastic Mylar playfield protective covering installed in high-traffic areas on playfield such as in front of Thing hand (Skill Shot) and right flipper return lane (ramp drop-off). Factory- installed mylar still present in/around pop bumper and Electric Chair area, "Thing" flipper, and Swamp kickout/right lanes.
  • Standup targets on playfield (11 total) have had their foam backing removed and replaced with brand new foam rubber for added durability and good looks.
  • Score and instruction cards have both been reproduced for clean clear looks, and hard-laminated for durability, and to prevent against damage in the future- these look great!
  • Both slingshot bumper assemblies have had their detector switches removed and hand-cleaned with tarnish remover for nice bright brass shine!
  • "Power" electronic magnets under playfield have had their driver circuitry modified and individual fuses added for each of the three magnets. This prevents problems of magnets getting "stuck" on and overheating and often burning/discoloring the playfield surface (common problem on most Addams Family games). Our custom modifications will prevent against this problem occurring in this game in the future.
  • Inside and outside of main cabinet and backbox completely stripped of parts, cleaned, parts individually hand cleaned, and reassembled.
  • Coin door completely removed and 100% disassembled. All parts (including wiring harness and switches) individually cleaned and detailed by hand and reassembled. Coin door metal parts professionally repainted and refinished for that brand new "day one" look! Fully working quarter coin mechanisms installed in coin door and tested for proper operation/adjustment.
  • Playfield glass lockdown bar and latch assembly completely removed, cleaned, and reassembled. Brand new strip of insulating foam rubber applied to underside of lockdown bar.
  • Legs completely cleaned and polished for a high shine. Brand new leg levelers and nuts installed on all four legs.
  • Leg bolts cleaned, polished, and reinstalled.
  • Cabinet nicks, dings, scuffs and scratches patched up, touched up, and repainted, where necessary.
  • Solder joints on light bulb PC boards under playfield all reflowed and reinforced with fresh solder to prevent cracks and intermittent operation in the future.
  • All electronics (PC boards) in backbox checked and tested for proper operation and good looks (no burned connectors, etc.) Fuses all removed, checked, and proper values verified- replaced where necessary.
  • Remote-mount battery holder installed for MPU board in backbox (See image below). This prevents damage to the valuable MPU board from accidental battery discharge or leakage, which can destroy the board. Batteries are now mounted off-board and risk of damage is eliminated. Brand new fresh batteries installed.
  • Playfield glass replaced with brand new scratch-free sheet of tempered safety glass.
  • "Cloud" assembly on top of backbox removed, cleaned, and polished inside and out. Flasher lamps under Cloud replaced with brand new bulbs (usually always burned out on most Addams Family games).
  • Backglass translite (artwork) removed and glass cleaned/polished (both sides). Translite cleaned/polished (both sides). Molding pieces cleaned and reassembled.
Cabinet and backbox on this game look great. Game has had a few very small nicks and scuffs from normal use over the years, which were touched up well and have made the game look like new again.

Playfield is in overall excellent shape and appears to have had far below-average use. There is no wear around the rotating Bookcase base, or in front of the Thing hand, as is common on most Addams Family games. There are also no signs of wear on any of the Mansion window "inserts" or "lenses" just above the flippers. This is usually the first place on the playfield where wear occurs on Addams Family games, and most have moderate to heavy wear in this area. This game is fortunate to have all of it's artwork intact in this area- still looks like new!

There is also no burning/scorching or discoloring of the artwork over any of the three electromagnets under the playfield (the "Power" feature used during Multiball). Magnets overheating and damaging playfield is a common problem in Addams Family games. This game has no signs of such damage and all parts are in perfect working order. Magnet parts/circuitry have been modified to prevent such damage in the future (see images below).

There are some very slight signs of wear starting around the bare wood area surrounding the Electric Chair kickout scoop. Artwork (paint) has not been damaged, however (common problem on most Addams Family games). We've also installed a custom metal hole protector to prevent against further wear.

Bookcase base (blue round baseplate) has been replaced with brand new part. (Original part had a hairline stress crack in it.)

Playfield flat screened (artwork) plastics are all in excellent condition, and all are in overall excellent condition with no cracks or breaks.

Backglass translite is in overall great shape and very clean. Cloud assembly on backbox is in great shape as well. All decals on the cloud are still intact and in great shape!

There is no fading of the cabinet artwork colors on this game. The bright yellow colors on the cabinet and backbox are commonly faded on most Addams Family games. This game shows no signs of color fading- looks just like new.

Partial List of New Parts on This Game: ("NOS" means New Old Stock- a part that is original, new, never used).
  • New Bookcase base.
  • Flipper assembly parts, and associated hardware.
  • NOS original Williams flipper coils installed (on all four flippers).
  • Brand new sheet of tempered safety glass over playfield.
  • Brand new full set of rubber rings.
  • Brand new light bulbs, and shiny new balls.
  • New remote-mount battery kit with quick-disconnect connector installed.
  • New long-life batteries installed in backbox for memory-retention.
  • New price and instruction cards- hard-laminated for great looks and protection.
  • New plunger barrel spring.
Custom Modifications:
  • This machine has had it's software upgraded to the latest game ROM revision L-6 (newer than the latest available revision on the Williams/Bally web site!)
  • Protective Mylar semi-circles installed in front of slingshot bumpers to preserve playfield finish and protect against wear.
  • Protective fender washers added under slingshot plastics to protect against damage.
  • Electric Chair, Swamp, and Thing kickout scoops have all been reinforced to prevent breakage in the future- common problem on Addams Family games which makes the ball airborne after leaving scoop, which causes a streak of worn surface on the playfield in front of the scoop (there are no signs of such wear on the playfield on this game).
  • "Power" magnets under playfield have had their driver circuitry modified by adding three individual fuses (one for each magnet). This gets around a factory design flaw that could cause one or more magnets to "lock on" and overheat, thus damaging the magnet and possibly the playfield. This modification will prevent failure and damage to the game in the future.
  • Remote-mount battery holder for MPU board added in backbox. Includes quick-disconnect for easy MPU board removal from the game, if ever needed.
