Black Knight 2000 is the famous sequel to the popular and legendary Black Knight from 1980 which was the first game to feature TWO playfield levels in the game, and the game that introduced the Magna-Save™ feature- a player-activated magnet that would capture the ball and save it from exiting the playfield.
Black Knight 2000, like it's predecssor, was designed by legendary pinball designer Steve Ritchie, who is known for the fast, furious, and flowing play of his games. If you're a player that's not afraid of a challenge, then this game, like most Steve Ritchie designs, will be sure to satisfy!
Several objectives are present in Black Knight 2000, and it's up to you to choose which you prefer to go after- 3-Ball Multi-Ball play, completing the drop target banks for successive rewards, trying to collect the King's Ransom, going for Loop Champion, playing Double Knight's Challenge and trying to capture the elusive Million Points from completing the W-A-R lanes, or going for random awards on the Lightning Wheel! Feature after feature, this game challenges- and rewards.
Balls are shot into play on the upper playfield level. Try to complete the W-I-N rollover lanes to advance bonus multiplier. Completing the upper W-A-R lanes lights the left lane on the lower playfield for a Hurry-Up award, and the upper Skyway Ramp to advance the King's R-A-N-S-O-M. Shoot the 1-2-3 targets to lower their bank and shoot past them to the Skyway Ramp to lock balls for Multiball play.
And that's just the upper level!...
The lower playfield packs a punch, too. Shoot center loop U-Turn shots to advance U-Turn point awards. Shoot the left lane to return to the upper playfield and try to complete successive shots around the upper field's perimeter with the upper flipper. Two completions lights the lower left lane for Extra Ball. Get a record number of successive loops and be rewarded as the "Loop Champion" and enter your initials!
Shoot drop targets on the lower playfield and complete to advance B-L-A-C-K and collect big rewards! Complete the left bank to re-light the kickback in the left outlane. Complete the right bank to re-light Magna-Save in the right lane. Shoot the Lightning Wheel lane to collect a random award and return to the upper playfield level. Shoot the kickout saucer to start Double Knight's Challenge- a frantic 2-ball Multiball Mode where you try to complete the W-A-R lanes on the upper playfield and collect 1 Million points!
Black Knight 2000 features lots of great shots- loops and ramps- with great sound and speech effects and a great musical score to go along with play. Great colors and classic Williams artwork adorn the playfield and really make for a great, fun, pinball experience- for beginners and experts alike. As you can see, this game has a lot of fun and challenges packed into it- you really get "a lot of pinball for the money" with Black Knight 2000. A game that will entertain any novice, or challenge any expert- and always keep you coming back for more. And will be the envy of all your neighbors, friends, and pinball buddies alike!
Game Condition:
Overall: This particular game has been exceptionally well-preserved over the years and has clearly seen much lower-than-average use and very good upkeep which have both helped to preserve it's original condition very well. This game is very clean inside and out, and does not have any damage from spilled drinks/liquids, or any of the nasty cigarette smoke smell, as is common in so many used pinball games. A very nice example of this classic Williams pinball- great for any home setting or even any discriminating collector's lineup.
Playfield: Playfield on this game is in excellent condition from top to bottom. Both upper and lower playfields both feature original factory Mylar coverings which have helped protect and preserve the artwork on them over the years. So this game still retains a fresh, colorful, original appearance. As with any factory-Mylared game, a few air bubbles have developed under the Mylar, over some of the light "lenses" or "inserts". The only way to remove these is to remove the Mylar, but we will not remove Mylar from a playfield due to the exceptionally high risk of irreversible damage that Mylar removal can cause. But the condition of the Mylar and playfield underneath are in excellent shape, and really overshadow any of the few imperfections present from lower-than-average use on this game over the years.
Some small spots of wear/tear were touched up in areas not covered by the Mylar- a small spot in the left outlane, and some spots in the center lower "u-turn" lane (located underneath upper playfield, and not visible to player).
Plastics are in good shape with only one having an edge chipped off- the small vertical piece on the upper playfield front edge to the right of the Multiball exit lane (commonly broken part on Black Knight 2000 games). This piece has a clean break on it's left edge from balls striking it, but does not appear unsightly and really isn't noticeable to the untrained eye, so does not detract from the game's appearance. The Multiball plastic over the shooter lane is intact and undamaged (rare) an this game features a few brand new plastic pieces including slingshot bumper plastics, and the piece over the left drop target bank.
Playfield has been stripped, cleaned, polished, and waxed to restore original look and give maximum playability and appearance.
Cabinet & Backbox: Cabinet/backbox are in great shape having had only a few very small nicks and chips from less-than-average use and handling over the years. Most all of these blemishes have been touched-up to be less apparent. Most of these were around the front and bottom edges on the backbox sides, and a few small light nicks on the main cabinet sides and front as well. Nothing major and nothing unsightly. Front of game has not been drilled for a security bar, so still retains an original "factory" look. No fading of the cabinet artwork is apparent on this game- game still has an overall bright, fresh, colorful appearance from top to bottom, and appears very fresh-looking overall. Some wear to the cabinet surface underneath each of the legs is present, but we have added new leg protector pads and existing wear is not noticeable when these, and the legs, are installed on the game.
Coin door is in excellent condition and has been thoroughly overhauled and restored- disassembled into all individual pieces and parts. Metal parts and carriage bolts used for mounting have been repainted with correct semi-gloss black enamel paint. All internal parts have been cleaned and reassembled, including wiring harness and buttons/switches. Coin mechanisms are present and fully working, to accept US quarters for play. Game can also be set on "free play" for non-coin operation. New coin door lock and key installed. Looks and works like new- inside and out.
Backglass: Backglass on this game is original and in great shape. It has only a few small scratches on the back side from normal handling over the years- none of which are obvious when viewed from the front side and one has to really look closely to find them. Really a very well-preserved backglass for this game.
Here is a detailed list of work that has been done on this game, followed by more details on condition:
- We have invested just over 50 hours in the detailed restoration of this game.
- Playfield top and bottom surfaces stripped of parts and assemblies for proper cleaning- right down to the bare wood and paint. Playfield surface hand cleaned and polished to restore original finish.
- All playfield parts have been removed and hand-cleaned, or replaced with brand new parts where necessary. This includes light bulbs, posts, ramps, wireform ball guides, flipper assemblies, under-playfield ramps, target banks, bumper assemblies, lamp PC boards, ball trough and associated parts, and any other parts that are installed on the playfield.
- All metal parts removed from playfield have been hand cleaned and polished for original bright shiny finish.
- Stainless steel ball guides refinished using our own in-house proprietary process. This removes the ugly "ball marks" from the stainless steel "rails" or "guides" that are found all over the playfield and on sides of lanes. Our process removes the marks and leaves a "like new" finish and look on these rails to restore their "day one" new look.
- All ramps have been completely removed and fully disassembled into all of their individual parts, including having wiring harnesses and switches/plugs removed for proper cleaning. Ramps cleaned, polished, and all associated hardware and accessory parts cleaned, polished, and reassembled.
- Elevating target bank unit on upper playfield has been fully removed from game, disassembled into all individual parts and fully cleaned, overhauled, rebuilt, and reassembled/adjusted for proper operation.
- All pop bumper assemblies on this game were removed, 100% disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled. Any worn or broken parts replaced with brand new parts.
- Flipper assemblies completely removed, 100% disassembled, cleaned, and rebuilt with brand new factory-original parts, and reassembled. Flippers tuned and adjusted for optimum performance and reliability.
- Brand new full Rubber Ring Kit installed on playfield.
- New playfield plastics installed in various locations on playfield, as needed.
- Fender washers installed under top and bottom edges of slingshot bumper plastics to protect them from cracking/breaking from airborne balls.
- All light bulbs on top and bottom of playfield, and elsewhere in game, removed, cleaned, and replaced. Brand new light bulbs used as replacements for old worn, discolored, or burned out bulbs and flasher bulbs.
- All light bulb inserts (or "lenses") in playfield surface cleaned and polished for maximum shine and light penetration.
- Brand new chrome steel pinballs installed in game (game uses THREE total).
- Drop target banks have been fully removed, disassebled into all individual parts, cleaned, rebuilt, and reassembled and adjusted for proper operation.
- Brand new drop targets with decals installed for both target banks.
- Score and instruction cards have both been reproduced for clean clear looks, and hard-laminated for durability, and to prevent against damage in the future- these look great!
- Inside and outside of main cabinet and backbox completely stripped, parts individually hand-cleaned, and reassembled.
- Coin door completely removed and 100% disassembled. All parts (including wiring harness and switches) individually cleaned and detailed by hand and reassembled. Coin door metal parts professionally repainted and refinished for that brand new "day one" look!
- Playfield glass lockdown bar removed, cleaned, and reassembled. Brand new strip of insulating foam rubber applied to underside of lockdown bar.
- Brand new leg levelers and nuts installed on all four legs.
- Brand new leg bolts installed.
- Brand new cabinet leg protector pads installed under legs for added good looks and protection against wear/tear to the cabinet corners.
- All electronics (PC boards) in backbox checked and tested for proper operation and good looks. Fuses all removed, checked, and proper values verified- replaced where necessary. No burned or scorched/overheated connectors.
- Remote-mount battery holder installed for MPU board in backbox. This prevents damage to the valuable MPU board from accidental battery discharge or leakage, which can destroy the board. Batteries are now mounted off-board and risk of damage is eliminated. Brand new fresh batteries installed.
- Playfield glass replaced with brand new scratch-free sheet of tempered safety glass.
- Touch-up repairs done with paint to most nicks and scratches on cabinet and backbox. Front of backbox "surround" fully repainted with gloss black paint for "like new" look.
- New white nylon gliders installed on back of main cabinet for fresh new look.
- New nuts and screws added to playfield posts for fresh "day one" look. Including new nylock nuts on plastics and hex head screws on posts and metal ball rail guides and other assemblies.
- Metal posts polished/shined including hex posts and standoff posts used throughout playfield.
- Main cabinet interior walls repainted in semi-gloss black paint to restore original factory finish.
- New t-nuts and post screws installed in several locations to replace worn or stripped original hardware.

 | Playfield- overall view. Restoration complete and fully reassembled. |
 | Lower area- flippers, slingshot bumpers, and score/instruction card cover. Note new hard-laminated score/instruction cards. |
 | Center lower playfield. Both lower and upper playfields have original factory Mylar covering which has protected and preserved the playfield artwork. A few small air bubbles have developed in the Mylar over some of the lights, as is common on many games, but overall still in really nice shape.
Drop targets on both banks were replaced with new parts recently- plastic targets and decals. A brand new plastic is mounted over the left bank of targets. |
 | Detail- Magna-Save and right inlane/outlane area. "Magna Save On" plastic over plunger lane is undamaged (commonly broken or missing on many Black Knight 2000 games). Some light superficial wear to the center of the Magna Save area on the playfield was present and touched up, but was very minimal. Note brand new slingshot bumper plastic over right slingshot bumper (both left and right slingshot plastics have been replaced with new pieces). |
 | Detail- lower section of upper playfield- W-A-R rollover lanes. Upper playfield also features factory original Mylar covering which has protected and preserved the original playfield artwork and finish. Beautiful condition. |
 | Detail- upper playfield left corner- ramp area. This is the "Skyway Ramp". Shoot and complete the 3 "1-2-3" red targets in front of the ramp entrance to make them lower down into the playfield (the "drawbridge"), then shoot the ramp to lock balls for 3-ball Multiball play! |
 | Detail- upper playfield- right side, and top "W-I-N" rollover lanes. |
 | Playfield underside and cabinet interior. |
Cabinet/Backbox:
Thumbnail (Click for larger view) | Description |
 | Game overall view. |
 | Cabinet- right side. The whole cabinet on this game shows below-average signs of use/handling- very few nicks/scuffs were present on any of the cabinet surfaces, and many were touched-up to be less apparent and restore the smooth clean look to the game (most being around the edges on backbox sides). Really nice to see a used game in this good of shape after so many years. All colors on this game are still in great shape with no signs of apparent fading- really well-preserved. |
 | Left side of main cabinet. A few very small nicks/scuffs have found their way on to the cabinet surface on this side of the game from use over the years, but no major damage, and overall very well-preserved. |
 | Cabinet front, coin door. Coin door has been completely overhauled- stripped down into all individual parts and components, metal parts repainted in factory original semi-gloss black enamel, all parts cleaned, and reassembled.
Note that cabinet front has not been drilled for a security bar, as many commercially-used machines are. So this one has retained it's original finish. |
 | Backbox- right side. A few nicks and scuffs were present on the side and edges of the backbox, most of which were touched up to be less apparent and give a more uniform look to the game's finish. |
 | Backbox- left side. A few small nicks and scratches from normal use/handling over the years were present on this side too, and most were touched up- primarily on the edges. |
 | Backglass and speaker panel. Backglass is original and has a few small minor scratches on the back side from normal handling over the years. But one must look closely to find them when viewing from the front side. Really a nice original glass.
Score displays on this game are bright and healthy with no burned or missing/non-working segments or digits. |
