Interested Buyers Please Note:

This used mechanical pinball game is being sold "as-is" without warranty, and is best suited for purchase and use by an experienced pinball hobbiest or enthusiast- someone who is acquainted with working on and maintaining older antique mechanical pinball games such as this one, or someone who has a qualified pinball service person at their disposal who can help with the continued maintenance and service on this mechanical pinball game.

While this game has been recently serviced and inspected for 100% proper operation, it is a known fact that all pinball machines- old or new- will require some adjustment, maintenance, service, and repair as time goes on. But older antique mechanical pinball games such as this one that have literally hundreds of moving parts, switches, contacts, relays, motors, and other devices, usually tend to be even more "finicky" in their day-to-day operation, and tend to require more frequent upkeep, maintenance, and occasional repair, than later-model "electronic" pinball games that have considerably fewer moving parts.

As this game is considered an antique (30+ years old) mechanical pinball game, we ask any interested buyers to please carefully consider the responsibility of owning and maintaining a game of this type, understanding that occasional repairs, adjustments, maintenance, and service will be an integral part of owning and using an antique mechanical game of this type.

Even something as simple as moving or shipping an older game like this can cause vibration-related problems to come up, so it is entirely possible that this game may require some adjustment before it can be operated, after it has been transported and/or shipped to/by the customer.

As this game is not warranted, repairs and adjustments of this type are not covered as part of the sale, so any such interested customers are advised to take the above information into consideration before making a decision to purchase or not to purchase this game. If you need any further information, please e-mail us.
Thank You! - Action Pinball & Amusement Management & Staff

Game Description:

Hi Deal is a classic electro-mechanical pinball made by Bally in the late 1970's- during one of the periods of highest popularity of arcade pinball. Hi Deal was one of the very last single player (1 player) games that Bally produced. Single player electro-mechanical games made by Gottlieb, Bally, and Williams, have typically been more highly sought-after by collectors due to their unique design (most games made were 2- or 4-player models.) The single-player games also had less wiring and mechanisms in them, due to their simplicity, so are also typically easier to maintain and work on than their 2- and 4-player counterparts. This may also be a reason they are more commonly sought-after for home use.

Hi Deal has a classic "vintage" pinball playfield layout, featuring several familliar pinball gadgets, including 2 flippers, a spinner, 3 pop bumpers, a kickout saucer, and a host of standup targets. Shoot for the right standup targets to light all 5 of the playing cards in the center of the playfield. Shots to the center kickout saucer award 1000 points plus 1 bonus advance for each card that is lit. Light all 5 cards to light the Special at the kickout saucer, and the flipper return lanes for extra ball.

This game features 5-digit scoring with the "over the top" feature which lights up a "100,000" light behind the backglass when the score rolls over 99,990 points. The higher scoring introduced on Bally games at this time attracted more players and proved to be much more popular. True 6-digit scoring became standard on Bally games about a year later.

While this game features a lot of fun gadgets and ways to collect points during play, it's straightforward and "classic" playfield design makes for a great starter game for first-time pinball owners or a familliar look and feel for vintage pinball lovers alike. Not too much to overwhelm the novice player, but plenty to keep you challenged and always coming back for more!

Game Condition Details:

This game is in overall great shape inside and out. It has seen relatively lower-than-average use over the years which has really helped to preserve it's cosmetic and mechanical condition. The play meter in this game shows total number of plays at just over 53,000, which is far lower than what we usually see on mechanical games from the 1970's (most games are typically in the 85,000+ range). This game, like most used pinball machines, has collected a few scratches and chips from use over the last few decades and does show some signs of aging and wear/tear but can still be easily rated as "above average" condition for a game of it's age- most older games like this really don't survive this well over the years.

Playfield on this game is actually in excellent condition for a game of it's age. Not a perfect playfield by any means (no used pinball playfield is)- there are a few signs of use from play over the years, most notably a small "scuff" mark in front/left of the center kickout saucer from balls being ejected and landing there over the years. And one small scuff mark in front of the left flipper- probably from a broken or mis-adjusted flipper rubbing on the playfield at some point in the game's past. Otherwise a very well-preserved playfield with a fresh, clean look to it- definitely an outstanding looking playfield for a game of it's age. Playfield surface has been cleaned and polished, and burned-out lightbulbs and worn rubber rings have all been replaced with new parts. A new shiny chrome steel pinball has been installed. Flippers are strong and work well. Plastics (light shields/light covers) are all in excellent shape, however one small triangle-shaped piece in the upper left corner of the playfield is missing and we have not been able to find a replacement for this piece as yet. But it is not very noticeable and does not detract from the overall look of the playfield.

Cabinet and backbox are in overall good shape- about average for a game of this age. This game has accumulated a few scratches, scuffs, and nicks from normal use and handling over the years, but nothing major or unsightly. See images below for more details. Cabinet and backbox interiors are in good shape and generally clean & free of debris. Game does have some cigarette-smoke smell inside it, probably from having been used in a bar or lounge for some time.

Backglass on this game is in outstanding condition and still has a like-new appearance- some might say "mint" condition. No signs of damage or aging- no paint flaking or chipping, etc. on this glass- a rare example for a game of this age.

Here is a list of work that we have done on this game:
Custom Modifications:
  • Game modified for "free play"- no longer requires any coins for operation.

Description
Playfield- full overall view.
Detail- lower playfield area and score/instruction card holder. Really a nice-looking, colorful, and bright playfield on this game- well-preserved with very few signs of use from play over the years. One small scratch is present in the yellow area above the left flipper in this shot- probably from a worn/broken flipper rubbing on the playfield surface at some point in the game's past. Score card holder is in great shape- well preserved. Note new score and instruction cards installed.
Center section of playfield. Small ball marks are present in front and behind center kickout saucer, from balls going in/out of the saucer over the years, but very minimal. Note the good condition of the plastics and overall playfield condition on this game- really a nice looking machine.
Upper section of playfield. Great shape here with no notable signs of wear/tear. The pop bumpers on this game have a factory-installed mylar ring around them which has preserved the playfield artwork around them (common wear spot on most games). No signs of wear around the bumpers on this game. Note the one missing triangle-shaped plastic in the upper left corner area- just below the left ball gate in this shot. This piece was missing when we acquired the game and we have been unable to locate a replacement for it, but it is not too obvious or unsightly. Mentioned here for accuracy.
Game overall view.
Main cabinet- right side. Cabinet has gathered a few scratches and scuffs from over the years, but still has an above-average appearance for a game of it's age.
