Game Description:
Judge Dredd is a wild, fast pinball experience featuring the best of modern-day pinball- wild, fast ramps, an extra wide playfield layout, four flippers, and six ball multiball, along with a crazy "Super Game" mode where you start your game in the middle of six-ball multiball! Designed after the popular comic book character and hit motion picture starring Sylvester Stallone, this game features high definition audio with sound, speech, and music tracks from the movie, along with a multitude of modes and features that follow the storyline of the movie.
A real rotating planetoid mechanism catches balls from one of the ramps and rotates them around to a crane unit that picks them up and drops them back down a ramp to the flippers! Use the four flippers on this game to hit a host of wild looping ramp shots, drop target banks, under-playfield tunnels, and over-playfield catwalks that really keep the ball moving!
Judge Dredd is one of only a few games produced during the "golden era" of the 1990's that was a "wide-body" game. Wide-body pinball games (like Twilight Zone, Indiana Jones, and Star Trek: The Next Generation) were all about 3 inches wider than a standard pinball machine, which allows for more toys and gadgets on the playfield, as well as more places for the ball to go! You always get more pinball for your money with a wide-body game!
Judge Dredd was designed by popular Bally/Williams pinball engineer John Trudeau who designed other landmark pinball classics such as Creature From the Black Lagoon, Black Rose, and Bugs Bunny, just to name a few.
Judge Dredd is a great game for beginners, casual players, and advanced pinball experts alike. Typically priced in the mid-range, it's rules and gameplay are fun and straightforward enough to be entertaining for any players, regardless of skill and age. Not too much to overwhelm the novice player, but plenty to keep you challenged and always coming back for more!
Game Condition Details:
Over 45 hours have been invested in the full reconditioning of this game. It easily meets our criteria for an "Excellent Condition" rating, which is near our top rating for a used, reconditioned, restored game.
This game is a domestic (U.S.) model and is not a re-import from overseas. This particular Judge Dredd game came to us from a local arcade operator who had the game only in one or two locations over the course of it's commercial life, so the game was very rarely moved or handled, and has consequently had it's condition preserved very well- inside and out.
This game was never in a location where smoking or food/drink were allowed, so it has none of the "spilled drink" damage inside the front of the cabinet or any bad smells from a smoky bar, etc.- this game is clean both in looks- and in smells- inside and out! Defintely one of the lucky few that survived without much use, handling, or damage from its environment, and an ideal game for any home game room.
Playfield is in superb condition on this game, with no signs of wear/tear on the playfield surface- really preserved well and exhibits all the signs of a very "low mileage" game. (See images below for more details.) This playfield still has a fresh, clean, glossy new look to it- outstanding condition for a used, reconditioned game.
Playfield surface is fully cleaned, polished, and waxed- really a super shine on this field! Playfield parts and accessories are all present, complete, and in superb shape.
All mechanisms on the playfield (including kickers, bumpers, flippers, ball popper units, ramps, and more) have all been painstakingly overhauled and reconditioned/restored to new condition for good looks and proper reliable operation.
Cabinet and Backbox on this game are very clean with a fresh appearance- inside and out. Very few signs of previous use or handling were present on this game when we received it- only a few small nicks, chips, and scratches here and there- the majority being confined to edges/corners around the backbox sides- not negatively affecting any of the actual detailed artwork on the cabinet. Some chipping of the wood along the front lower cabinet edge was present and has has been touched up to appear less obvious. Some small signs of wear and rubbing from the legs were present underneath the legs on each of the corners of the main cabinet, where the legs mount directly to the cabinet. These are common to find on any used game and are the result of use and vibrations from operating the game over time. Brand new leg protector pads were installed to help cover these areas and prevent any future damage (scratches, scuffs) and help preserve the finish and give a nice clean finished look to the game.
There is no fading of the cabinet artwork on this game- all colors and artwork are bright and vibrant just like new!
The exterior bottom panel of the main cabinet has been restored as well- cleaning and sanding of the wood edges and bottom panel to restore the original appearance.
Front of game (around coin door) has never been drilled for an aftermarket security bar, so still retains it's original look and finish. The original coin door on this game has been completely restored, including a full tear-down of all parts- inside and out- with full cleaning and reconditioning of all parts, and full repainting of all metal parts with original semi-gloss black enamel paint to restore that "day one" fresh new look. No cheap "mask-off" job here- our coin door overhaul process involves disassembling the door into every conceivable nut and screw, with each individual part being reconditioned and reassembled- the way they did it at the factory.
Backbox on this game still has the original Gold Eagle topper still mounted on it. This piece is often missing (or partially missing) from most Judge Dredd games and can be difficult & costly (or even impossible) to find a replacement for. The original Eagle on this game is in fair-to-good overall condition and shows some signs of previous use and age, including some scuffs and a few previous cracks that were repaired at some point in the game's past, but still complete and looks great on top of this classic game.
Front "bezel" or "frame" around the backglass and speaker panel has been repainted with matching gloss black enamel paint to restore a clean original look. Inside walls of main cabinet have also been cleaned and repainted with matching semi-gloss black paint for a "day one" fresh new look.
Back of backbox and main cabinet are in great shape- back of game has been cleaned and a fresh coat of semi-gloss black enamel paint applied to restore factory look, and has had new white nylon gliders installed on the "skids" on the back of the main cabinet as a finishing touch.
All circuit boards inside the backbox have been inspected and have no burned, scorched, or overheated wiring connectors, as is often common in many used games that have been run hard for many years. This game's original components still appear remarkably fresh and healthy due to the better-than-average care it has received over the years.
A brand new dot-matrix controller board has been installed for operating the score display, and should give many more years of operation and reliability.
Backglass on this game (mylar translite behind clear tempered glass) is in excellent condition with only a couple very light superficial nicks on the back side of the translite from normal handling over the years. None of these penetrate all the way through the artwork to the front side, so are not very obvious and not unsightly when viewed from the front (see images below). Black plastic trim on the backglass edges is all present, clean, and in great shape.
Here is a detailed list of work that has been done on this game, followed by more details on parts and game modifications:
- We have invested just over 45 hours of work in the restoration of this game.
- Playfield top and bottom surfaces stripped of parts and assemblies for proper cleaning- right down to the bare wood and paint. Playfield surface hand cleaned and polished.
- All playfield parts have been removed and hand cleaned, or replaced with brand new parts where necessary. This includes light bulbs, posts, ramps, wireform ball guides, flipper assemblies, Deadworld rotating planet assembly, ball crane mechanism, target banks, bumper assemblies, lamp PC boards, ball trough and associated parts, and any other parts that are installed on the playfield.
- All metal parts removed from playfield have been hand cleaned, polished, and stainless steel ball guide rails have been refinished with our proprietary in-house process to remove ball marks and restore original bright "brand new" shiny look.
- All ramps have been completely removed and fully disassembled into all of their individual parts for proper cleaning. Ramps cleaned, polished, and all associated hardware and accessory parts cleaned, polished, and reassembled.
- All playfield plastic posts removed and cleaned by hand with detergent and brush to remove any wax, dirt, grime, or leftover cleaner. They once again look like new! Worn or damaged posts replaced with brand new posts.
- All new hardware installed on playfield, including nylock nuts for plastics, screws for ramps and posts, etc. No dirty, rusted or ugly hardware on this playfield!
- All four flipper assemblies on this game have been completely removed, 100% disassembled, cleaned, and rebuilt with brand new replacement parts, and reassembled. Flippers tuned and adjusted for optimum performance and reliability.
- Complete rubber ring kit installed on playfield.
- All light bulbs on top and bottom of playfield, and elsewhere in game, removed, cleaned, and replaced. Brand new light bulbs used as replacements for old worn, discolored, or burned out bulbs and flasher bulbs.
- All light bulb inserts (or "lenses") in playfield surface cleaned for maximum shine and light penetration.
- Brand new chrome steel pinballs installed in game (game uses 9 total).
- Playfield flat plastics (screened artwork) all removed, cleaned, polished, and reinstalled. No cracked, broken, or otherwise worn/damaged plastics on this game.
- Fender washers installed under top and bottom edges of slingshot bumper plastics, to protect them from wear/tear from airborne balls.
- All standup targets on playfield have been fully cleaned and adjusted for best look and operation. Brand new adhesive foam backing installed on all targets.
- Ball trough opto transmitter board has been upgraded with rubber grommets and extended length screws installed for mounting of this PC board. This helps prevent failure of the electronic components on this board from vibrations in the ball trough, which can cause intermittent operation- things like ball-in-play ending prematurely, and game kicking out multiple balls- problems that plague a lot of original games of this era that have not been upgraded.
- Score and instruction cards have both been reproduced for clean clear looks, and hard-laminated for durability, and to prevent against damage in the future- these look great!
- Cabinet Technical Chart has been replaced with brand new hard-laminated version for great looks and added durability.
- Inside and outside of main cabinet and backbox completely stripped of parts, cleaned, parts individually hand cleaned, and reassembled.
- Coin door completely removed and 100% disassembled. All parts (including wiring harness and switches) individually cleaned and detailed by hand and reassembled. Coin door metal parts professionally repainted and refinished for that brand new "day one" look! Fully working quarter coin mechanisms installed in coin door and tested for proper operation/adjustment.
- Playfield glass lockdown bar removed, cleaned, and a brand new strip of insulating foam rubber has been applied to underside of lockdown bar.
- Legs cleaned and polished to restore original appearance.
- New leg bolts and levelers installed on game- all four corners.
- Brand new cabinet leg protector pads installed under new legs for added good looks and protection against wear/tear to the cabinet corners.
- Solder joints on light bulb PC boards and EMI motor control PC boards under playfield all reflowed and reinforced with fresh solder. This repairs hairline cracks in the original solder joints that develop from vibration over the years, preventing intermittent connection/operation problems and adds increased reliability for years to come.
- All electronics (PC boards) in backbox checked and tested for proper operation and good looks (no burned connectors, etc.) Fuses all removed, checked, and proper values verified- replaced where necessary.
- Brand new dot-matrix controller board installed for crisp, bright score display operation, and many more years of reliability.
- Remote-mount battery holder installed for MPU board in backbox (See image below). This prevents damage to the valuable MPU board from accidental battery discharge or leakage, which can destroy the board. Batteries are now mounted off-board and risk of damage is eliminated. Brand new fresh batteries installed.
- Playfield glass replaced with brand new scratch-free sheet of tempered safety glass.
- Backglass glass and translite removed, cleaned, and reassembled.
- New white nylon gliders installed on "skids" on back of main cabinet for fresh new look.
- New quick-disconnect connectors added to drop target bank for easy removal of entire assembly without having to unsolder wires. Makes for easy future maintenance.
- Carriage bolts that reinforce backbox corners have all been tightened down for added strength and stability.
- New speaker grille installed under main cabinet speaker.
- New "Install 6 Balls" decal added under lockdown bar.

 | Playfield- restoration complete and fully reassembled. |
 | Playfield during restoration. Playfield removed, completely stripped of all parts- top and bottom sides- cleaned, polished, restored, and ready to be put back in the game and reassembled. Many more days of work to go from here! |
 | Detail- lower playfield- main flippers and slingshot bumpers area. This is the "highest traffic" area on the playfield and is really in great shape on this game with no apparent signs of wear/tear as most higher-mileage games typically show. Very well preserved playfield on this low-mileage game.
Note protective fender washers under top and bottom edges of slingshot bumper plastics, and new hard-laminated pricing and instruction cards mounted on lower "apron" (card holder). |
 | Detail- right side of playfield- lower right flipper, slingshot bumper and center area visible here. |
 | Detail- lower left side of playfield. Lower left flipper, left slingshot bumper, and wireform ramps that return balls to flipper are seen here. Note the shine on the metal of the wireform ramps- all metal parts have been cleaned and polished on this playfield to restore brand new look. |
 | Detail- captive balls and right ramp entrance. Just below the upper right flipper and the right "Pursuit" ramp, is the TRIPLE CAPTIVE BALL lane! No other pinball features a triple captive ball! Hit the lower ball with a good strong shot from the ball-in-play, and watch the 3 balls in this lane move like dominoes to get to the target at the top! |
 | Detail- upper left flipper, left ramp entrance, and center drop target bank. Oh, and of course the main gadget on the playfield- the lower portion is visible here of the Deadworld rotating planet assembly that locks and dispenses balls for multiball mode! |
 | Detail- upper playfield. Deadworld planet assembly and all the wild ramps are seen here! Here's where it gets crazy! Note small upper right flipper which directs the ball to one of several shots including a vertical up-kicker that feeds one of 3 ramps on a triple-decker ramp assembly that moves balls all over the playfield! |
 | Detail- Deadworld rotating planet assembly and crane. Note the cleanliness of the plastic in this shot- the planet, rings, and ramps and plastics underneath. So clean you can even see all the way down through to the "Deadworld" plastic ramp/trough area under the playfield in this zone. Very few Judge Dredd games are this clean!
The Deadworld planet device catches balls from one of the many ramps and rotates them around the ring of the planet, to the crane unit on the left side. The crane picks up the ball from the planet ring, and swings it over and drops it into another ramp, which feeds back to the flippers! Pinball gadgets just don't get much cooler than this!
|
 | Under-playfield shot. Note the cleanliness of the entire underneath of the playfield- all mechanisms you can see here have been fully removed, disassembled, cleaned, reconditioned and rebuilt with new parts where needed, and reassembled, reinstalled, and tuned for proper operation.
Ball trough has had it's opto PC boards upgraded with new rubber grommets, aluminum sleeves, and extended length mounting screws. The rubber grommets give some "cushion" to the PC boards and help them avoid damage and premature failure to the electronic components mounted on them, from vibrations from the balls inside the trough. Failures like these are extremely common in games that use these opto ball troughs- some of our most frequent service/repair calls are on games like this that have been sold from other dealers/individuals and not had the ball trough PC board upgraded or even repaired properly in many cases. This unit will provide increased reliability for years to come thanks to this extra bit of attention paid here.
Playfield wooden surface has even been stripped and cleaned to rid it of any of the common black "soot" and other dirt/dust that accumulate from years of play. This includes all of the flippers, ball trough assembly, kickers and switches, lamp and motor EMI PC boards, drop target assembly (completely rebuilt) under-playfield ramps, Deadworld planet motor and mechanism (including crane), diverters, and anything else under there! Light bulbs and lenses/inserts on the playfield that are usually left uncleaned by most pinball re-sellers will prevent the light from showing through to the playfield surface, or cause it to be unnecessarily dim. This looks bad, and doesn't let you see what's going on with the game- not good. All have been thoroughly cleaned and restored as part of our reconditioning process.
Really a lot of work, but the only way to get the game as clean as new and worthy of a spot in your gameroom! |
 | Under-playfield- mid-section. Yes, even the under-playfield ramps get removed and cleaned/polished when we go through the game. Drop target bank assembly- seen in the center here- has been completely refurbished and rebuilt and we've added two quick-disconnect plugs to the coil wiring on this unit to allow it to be easily removed from the game for future service.
We spend a lot of time under the playfield- often as much time as we do on the top of the playfield- to remove dirt and dust like this and make sure the job isn't done only half-way. Any dirt/dust left under the playfield will not only continue to look terrible, but will cause problems now, and later on down the road. Any dirt left in under-playfield ramps will quickly find it's way back up to the top of the playfield- carried there by balls- and quickly dirty-up even the cleanest "shop" job on any game. No point in doing that work if you only do it half-way.
|
 | Under-playfield- top section. Motors and gearboxes for the rotating Deadworld planet assembly and crane can be seen here. All thoroughly overhauled and rebuilt as part of the restoration.
Dirt and dust left on opto transmitters and receivers will cause false triggering of devices like up-kickers, motor-driven devices, ball trough switches, and more. All these things cause problems with the play and operation of the game, yet are commonly left unaddressed by most resellers of used pinball games.
We hope you appreciate the extra effort taken here- it's just standard for our reconditioning process, yet few people ever notice it or realize how much of a difference it makes in the play and operation/reliability of a used pinball game.

Cabinet/Backbox:
Thumbnail (Click for larger view) | Description |
 | Game overall view. |
 | Cabinet- right side. The whole cabinet on this game really shows far below-average signs of use/handling- very few nicks/scratches have been present on any of the cabinet surfaces. Right side has a few small nicks/scratches here and there and some light superficial scuff marks near the back edge (possibly from shipping or transporting the game at some point in the past), but no major damage and no UV fading of the artwork. Really nice to see a used game in this good of shape after so many years. |
 | Cabinet- left side. Note the new leg bolts and new cabinet leg protector pads installed on all 4 legs to help prevent any wear/tear on the game in the future. Really a sharp-looking game after the extra work invested here. |
 | Cabinet front. Note fully repainted and reconditioned coin door. Not just masked-off and painted, but entire coin door on this game (like all games we restore) was fully removed, disassembled into every one of it's dozen pieces, black metal parts individually painted, all parts cleaned, and fully reassembled and reinstalled. The better part of a full day's work, but really worth the extra effort- looks like it just came from the factory!
Note also that this cabinet has not been "drilled", meaning it has not had holes drilled on either side of the coin door to mount an aftermarket security bar/hasp as used in many commercial locations. This has helped preserve the original condition of the game's cabinet- very nice to see. |
 | Cabinet interior. Note cabinet interior sides have been cleaned and repainted in semi-gloss black enamel- to restore that original "day one" look and really give the game a clean, sharp appearance.
Entire cabinet interior has been stripped of parts and hardware and cleaned thoroughly- including interior surfaces, brackets, speaker, wiring/cable harnesses, transformer unit, tilt mechanism, buttons, lights, coin box, glass lockdown bar, and more. Really a nice clean interior once again.
A custom hard-laminated "tech chart" has been installed in the cabinet. This replaces the original "paper only" chart installed by the factory. Gives a nice fresh look to the game and the lamination will prevent wear, tear, stains, and damage to the chart in the future. A nice finishing touch. |
 | Cabinet interior- front section. All parts and wiring seen here have also been fully removed, cleaned, refurbished, and reassembled to once again look like new. |

 | Backbox right and left sides. A few tiny nicks/scuffs present around the edges of the backbox, but no major damage and no UV fading of the artwork colors. |
 | Backbox front/translite and display/speaker panel. Score display on this game is bright and vibrant with no burned-out "dots" and should continue to provide good reliable service for years to come. |
 | Backbox insert/light panel. This is one spot that is a common dirt-and-dust trap on any pinball game. The light panel behind the backglass (translite) has been cleaned and has no unsightly dirt/dust residue or any dust-covered light bulbs. All burned out or discolored light bulbs have been replaced with brand new ones. |
 | Back side of backglass/translite. Mylar translite with backbox artwork is in excellent condition in this game. Only a few very tiny superficial nicks/scuffs have found their way onto the back side of the translite in this game from below-average use/handling over the years. Nicks seen here are very small indeed, and do not penetrate all the way through the artwork on the translite, so are not apparent or unsightly when viewed from the front side. |
 | Backbox interior. All circuit boards and connectors in the backbox have been inspected to ensure there are no burned connectors, poor past repairs, or incorrect fuses installed. Note brand new dot-matrix controller board installed for added score display performance and reliability.
A remote-mount battery holder kit with quick-disconnect cable has been installed for MPU board in backbox. All electronic pinball machine use batteries to keep memory in the game when power is turned off (high scores, custom settings/adjustments, etc). The remote kit gets the batteries off of the valuable MPU board, where they were originally installed at the factory, and away from it, to protect it from being damaged, should the batteries ever go neglected and burst/leak. Battery corrosion can cause irrepairable damage to valuable circuit boards in these games (very common problem). We install remote mount battery kits in all of the games we sell, for added protection, and ease of future battery replacement. Note also the "battery tag" stapled in the backbox, with a reminder of when the batteries were changed, and how/when to change them again.
|
Like all pinballs we sell, this machine also comes complete with fully functional coin door & mechanisms with all parts present and working, and full game manual and schematics (wiring diagrams) for this game.
For our local customers, game sale includes delivery, setup, and a full warranty on parts and labor, at no additional charge.
