Game Description:

Pole Position II is a vintage arcade classic video game from legendary game manufacturer, Atari, and was produced in the early 1980's at the height of pinball and video game arcade popularity. The original Pole Position and it's successor, Pole Position II were two of Atari's most successful and popular video games, and still remain popular among collectors and enthusiasts today. Pole Position II is much the same game as regular Pole Position, but features FOUR racetracks instead of just one, faster cars, and a few enhanced sounds and many new graphics.

Select one of four challenging race courses to race your car. Qualify during the first lap and race for one of eight start positions for the full race- from "Pole Position" (1st place) to 8th place.

Race four laps to complete the full race and if you finish, you can add your name/initials and your time to the high score list. Top scoring drivers can also add their name/initials even if the full race isn't completed. Each of the 4 racetracks in Pole Position II has it's own separate high score list!

Race among other cars and avoid water slicks and road signs. Shift gears from low to high as you race- speeding up on the straight-aways, and slowing down on the curves. Navigate through long sweeping curves and tight hairpin turns. Beginners can test their skills on the "Test" raceway- a basic "oval" track which is easy to navigate. More skilled drivers can move up to the classic "Fuji" raceway, and on to the more challenging "Suzuka" and "Seaside" tracks.

Game Condition Details:

This game is in overall great shape for a classic 1980's vintage game. It has seen below-average use, good upkeep, and it definitely shows! With the limited use this game has had during its lifetime, and the good care it's had, it has really had it's original condition preserved well- inside and out.

This game has had a brand new monitor installed ($350 value) so the picture is clear, sharp, crisp, and colorful, and should last for decades to come!

Control panel is in excellent condition, and is original. Steering wheel and gearshift controls are in excellent shape and fully working. A few nicks and cracks are present on the original control panel artwork, as is common on many vintage arcade classics like this one, but no unsightly wear or major damage.

Monitor glass is in very good condition with only a few tiny wear spots on the back from age and use over the years- very good looking overall. Marquee glass at top of game is in excellent condition with no blemishes.

Game cabinet is in very good condition with only a few small nicks, scratches, and scuffs picked up from over the years, some of which have been lightly touched-up for a more fresh overall appearance. Lower coin box door has had a mini pushbutton installed on it to allow players to add credits for starting the game, rather than having to run quarters through to play.

New
game levelers have been installed on the bottom of the game as well, for easy moving, and game levelling. No rusted, broken, or missing levelers on this game!

Interior of game has been thoroughly cleaned inside and out (see pictures below) and looks great.

Minor Issues Related to This Original Game:
Aside from the newly-installed monitor (TV picture tube) this game is essentially original inside and out, and approximately 25 years old at this point (made in 1983). As with any older used vintage arcade game, some minor operational problems may come up periodically and should be considered an inherent part of owning and operating an older used game such as this one. Interested buyers are asked to carefully consider the responsibility of owning an using an older vintage game like this, and that periodic problems or maintenance are an essential part to operating a game like this as time continues on.

In the time we have owned and operated this game, we have had the following minor issues occur periodically:
  • PC board connector problems: The PC boards and cable harness connectors in this game are original and can be a common source of minor issues with most Atari games, including this one. Interested buyers should be aware that the connectors for the PC boards in the back of the game may need periodic cleaning or removal/reseating to clean up any oxidation that can develop on the connectors periodically. Issues listed below can be attributed to connector problems in this older vintage game.
  • Scrambled screen at start-up: Occasionally after turning on the power, the screen remains "jumbled" with scrambled graphics. Turning the power off and back on has cured this problem in the past.
  • Game reset or lock-up during operation: Occasionally game may lock up or reset itself while it is running. Removing/reseating the PC board connectors has helped this issue in the past.
Game is being sold in condition described herein and customers should be aware that the above minor issues may occur periodically.

Here is a detailed list of work that has been done on this game:
  • We have invested approximately 20 hours of work in the restoration of this game.
  • Game cabinet stripped of all hardware, wiring, and mechanisms, and thoroughly cleaned.
