Unless otherwise noted, all games we sell within the U.S. and Canada- new or used- include our own custom warranty.

We beat the manufacturer's and distributor's warranty! On new and used games!

Factory Warranty on brand new Stern Pinball games is very limited and not only starts the day the game leaves the factory, but covers only the 2 or 3 circuit boards and score display in the game- no flippers, no bumpers, no kickers, no motors, no switches, no other playfield parts, mechanisms, or cabinet parts of any other kind. What good is a partial warranty that starts before you've even received the game? Most games sit in distributor warranty for several weeks or months before being sold, so any factory warranty is usually expired by the time the game goes out the door.

And, factory warranty applies only to the distributor that receives the game from the factory. This means that as an "end user" you, the customer, get no factory warranty at all on any new game! It is up to the distributor to decide if they will give you a warranty or not- and then it must be their own warranty, since the factory warranty only applies to distributors.

Most people don't know this about buying new games, and most dealers will tell customers that the game is warranted, but it's only warranted to the distributor for a short time and covers only a few items in the game- not everything. (Click here to read the actual Stern Pinball factory warranty.)

We do away with all this nonsense and provide our own custom warranty! To give our customers full coverage- on new and used/reconditioned games we sell.

Action Pinball & Amusement Game Warranty:

Terms and details of our warranty on warranted games we sell are the same for both local and out-of-town customers. However, service availability is limited on games sold to out-of-town customers since out-of-town customers are located outside our geographical area.

Out-of-Town Customers Please Note: For out-of-town customers outside our Full Service Area (see map below), our warranty service is limited due to the fact that we do not, and cannot, service games "in person" or "on location" outside our Full Service Area. Terms of our warranty will be honored for out-of-town customers as long as one of the following conditions can be met:

  1. Game can be transported back to our shop, at customer's expense, for any warranty work to be performed. Warranty work is performed at our expense (parts/labor). Customer is responsible for transportation of game back to his/her location after warranty work is performed, and any costs for such transportation and/or game re-assembly and setup.
  2. Part(s) of the game requiring service can be properly and safely removed by customer, properly packaged and transported back to our shop, for any warranty work to be performed. Warranty work is performed at our expense (parts/labor). Customer is responsible for transportation of part(s) back to his/her location after warranty work is performed, including any shipping or transportation costs, and for the proper, safe, and successful re-installation of said part(s) into the game, and any associated costs. We (Action Pinball) are not responsible for damage to, or inoperability of, parts or entire game, due to improper installation.
If none of the above conditions can be arranged, then we cannot provide any warranty work on the game.

All warranted games sold to out-of-town customers are sold only under these conditions. Customers are asked to carefully consider the limitations of service when buying a game from any out-of-town source, and before making their decision to purchase. Customers are also strongly advised before making a purchase, to locate a pinball or video game repair person or company in their local area, who can help with any possible "in person" service, should the game ever require it. It's just good common sense.

We are available for "in person" or "on location" service on games located within our local, or Full Service Area: (Service Area is subject to change without notice.)




























What is covered under our warranty?

Our warranty covers parts and labor on any normal operational problems* that you might encounter with the game, under normal use, for the first 30 days after you have received and taken posession of the game. Coverage on electronic circuit boards is 90 days. Coverage on dot-matrix score displays in brand new games is 12 months. Coverage on dot-matrix and other types of displays in used games is 90 days. Only electronic circuit boards and score displays are covered under the 90 day warranty. 90-day warranty does not cover problems with wiring, switches, light bulbs, solenoids, motors, or other non-circuit board or non-display items- it applies to electronic circuit boards and displays only. For our local customers (located in our Full Service Area- see map above), travel time to and from your location is also covered under warranty. We do not travel outside our Full Service Area to service games.

    * "Normal operational problems" do not include other items and conditions/situations that are not covered under our warranty. Please read below for specific details.

What isn't covered under warranty?

Our warranty DOES NOT cover any of the following:
  • Abuse of the game (overuse or misuse of flippers, buttons, knobs, etc)
  • Physical damage to the game (including, but not limted to, shipping/moving damage, damage from normal use & wear-and-tear, water or moisture damage, damage from extreme temperatures, scratches, chips, dents, scrapes, broken glass, spilled drinks/food, etc.)
  • Cosmetic (non-operational) condition of the game (paint finish, scratches, chips, wear & tear, etc)
  • Adjustments or changes to the game (changing number of balls per game, free-play/coin-play, or other game settings/adjustments)
  • Burned out light bulbs, starters, ballasts, or the replacement thereof
  • Worn/dirty rubber rings, or the replacement thereof
  • Cleaning and/or maintenance
  • Jammed coin mechanisms
  • Jammed or otherwise damaged locks
  • Lost keys
  • Problems or damage caused by persons other than our staff getting inside the game for any reason
  • Damage/clean-up from lubrication applied to any game parts (most parts should never be lubricated!)
  • Wear-and-tear from use
  • Damage to pinball playfield parts from game play (wear and tear)
  • Damage or problems incurred during, or as a result of, moving, relocating, transporting, setting-up, disassembling, or otherwise working on the game yourself
  • Damage or other problems arising from use of, or storage of, the game in an outdoor or non-temperature-controlled area (extreme heat or cold- less than 60 or more than 95 degrees Fahrenheit)
  • Alterations, modifications, "add ons", or other customizations- either electronic, mechanic, or cosmetic- or any resulting damage to other parts of the machine as a direct or indirect result of any such modifications.
  • Damage from being dropped, knocked over, abused, or otherwise physically damaged while at your location or during any transportation/shipping after initial delivery & set-up.
  • Damage to parts incurred during shipping and/or due to improper handling.
  • Loss of profits or use in connection with the purchase of any game from Action Pinball & Amusement.
  • Consequential damages or any other losses incurred in connection with the purchase of any game from Action Pinball & Amusement
  • Any parts installed/replaced by anyone other than ourselves (Action Pinball & Amusement).
  • Damage or problems caused by work or parts installed, replaced, or repaired by anyone other than ourselves (Action Pinball & Amusement).
  • Any costs for other repair persons to perform work on the game, other than ourselves (Action Pinball & Amusement).
  • Any costs for shipment of the game or any associated parts to/from our shop for service.
  • Use of the game in a commercial (non-home) or public/workplace environment. Only games sold for in-home use are covered under our warranty.
  • Any problems that occur during the warranty period, but are not reported until after the warranty expires. Our warranty is not retro-active- customers are required to report problems to us as soon as they arise, as we cannot and will not cover any problems under warranty if they are reported after the warranty has expired.
Any of the above will void the warranty on your game.

Any warranty work done must be performed by us (Action Pinball & Amusement). The warranty does not cover any parts or labor expenses performed or incurred by you or any other game repair persons. We (Action Pinball & Amusement) are not responsible for costs or work if any work is performed on game by anyone other than ourselves. Any work performed on the game by you or another shop's repair person is your full responsibility, and will void our warranty on the game.

If you experience problems with your game, those problems must be reported to us promptly within the warranty period, in order to be covered under warranty. Problems that are reported to us after the warranty period has expired, will not be covered under warranty, even if they occurred during the warranty period.

After the Warranty:

We service what we sell, so even after your warranty has expired, we are still available to service your game. We offer a discounted rate on labor when working on games that our customers have purchased directly from us. Contact us if you would like more information.

"How often should I have my game serviced?"

We recommend a general tune-up, service, and inspection once a year, or more frequently if your game gets frequent use.

Recommended Service Items:
  • Pin Balls: We recommend replacing the pin ball(s) once a year, to keep them smooth and shiny, and to avoid worn/scratched balls which can act as an abrasive to the fragile playfield surface and artwork. See our General Parts & Supplies page for ordering new pin balls.
  • Batteries: Batteries for MPU board (backup memory) in the backbox must be replaced every 2 years to keep them fresh, and to avoid bursting/leakage which can damage expensive circuit boards beyond repair. Batteries should be carefully replaced while the power is on to prevent loss of power to the memory chip, which can wipe out your high scores, settings, adjustments, etc. Contact us if you have any questions or require any assistance.
  • Rubber Rings: Most rubber rings will last approximately 5 years at most, but we recommend replacing them every 2-3 years to keep them fresh and bouncy. This will keep your game playing at it's best. Full replacement rubber kits start at around $8.95 per kit. See our Rubber Rings page for a listing of full rubber kits we carry, and individual/spare rubber parts as well.
  • Playfield Cleaning/Polishing & Wax: We recommend general/light cleaning of your game periodically- typically when you start to see ball "tracks"- lines of dirt where the ball frequently rolls. Or generally when you start to notice the playfield and parts becoming dirty from use. We recommend waxing the playfield once a year, and cleaning rubber rings periodically as they start to show dirt. As always, free technical support and assistance are always available to our customers by phone or e-mail, for as long as they own the game. We're always glad to help in any way we can by phone or e-mail, should you ever have a question or a problem with your game. We can also do service in-person if you are located in our Service Area (see map above).

While we encourage our customers to work on and maintain their own games themselves, we don't recommend that you work on or make any changes to your game if you are uncertain about what you are doing. Any damage or problems caused to the game from your own work will void the warranty, and will not be covered under warranty. Even moving the game to another room, up or down stairs, or to another location (building) can cause problems to appear, if you are not careful or certain about what you are doing. Call us anytime if you have any questions about working on, or maintaining your game.

    STERN PINBALL, INC., ("SELLER") WARRANTS ONLY TO THE INITIAL PURCHASER OF ITS PRODUCTS THAT THE ITEMS LISTED BELOW ARE FREE FROM DEFECTS IN MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP UNDER NORMAL USE AND SERVICE FOR THE WARRANTY PERIOD SPECIFIED:

    PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS (GAME LOGIC): 2 MONTHS
    DOT MATRIX DISPLAY BOARDS: 9 MONTHS


    NO OTHER PARTS OF SELLER'S PRODUCT ARE WARRANTED. WARRANTY PERIODS ARE EFFECTIVE FROM THE INITIAL DATE OF SHIPMENT FROM SELLER TO ITS AUTHORIZED DISTRIBUTORS. SELLER'S SOLE LIABILITY SHALL BE, AT ITS OPTION, TO REPAIR OR REPLACE PRODUCTS WHICH ARE RETURNED TO SELLER DURING THE WARRANTY PERIODS SPECIFIED, PROVIDED:

    1. SELLER IS NOTIFIED PROMPTLY UPON DISCOVERY BY PURCHASER THAT STATED PRODUCTS ARE DEFECTIVE.
    2. SUCH PRODUCTS ARE PROPERLY PACKAGED AND THEN RETURNED FREIGHT PREPAID, TO SELLER'S PLANT.

    THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT APPLY TO ANY PARTS DAMAGED DURING SHIPMENT AND/OR DUE TO IMPROPER HANDLING, OR DUE TO IMPROPER INSTALLATION OR USAGE, OR ALTERATION. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE SELLER BE LIABLE FOR ANY ANTICIPATED PROFITS, LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF USE, ACCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OR ANY OTHER LOSSES INCURRED BY THE CUSTOMER IN CONNECTION WITH THE PURCHASE OF A STERN PINBALL, INC. PRODUCT.

    WARRANTY DISCLAIMER
    EXCEPT AS SPECIFICALLY PROVIDED IN A WRITTEN CONTRACT BETWEEN SELLER AND PURCHASER, THERE ARE NO OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
