System 11 Game MPU Board Revisions
Four revisions of the System 11 MPU board (1986-1990) were used in the games made during this time. These were System 11, System 11A, 11B, and 11C. Not all System 11 boards are interchangeable between the different games, but some are. The chart below shows which board was originally used with each game. System 11 boards have all the circuitry on them that the later boards used, with the exception of the 3 LED's to the right of the battery holder- this is a 7-segment LED "digit" on System 11 games, but still works fine in the later games that this board is compatible with. System 11 boards also have some extra circuitry that uses the top left corner 4-pin connector for some of the speakers. Some/all later System 11 boards may not use this. System 11A boards: No notes at this time. System 11B boards use 3 separate LEDs for board diagnostics, instead of the earlier 7-segment display digit. They also do not have the speaker circuitry and 4-pin connector in upper left corner, as used by System 11 games. System 11C boards do not have the speaker circuitry or connector in upper left corner, nor any of the speech processing circuitry in the upper left section of the board- this area is left unpopulated, and sounds/speech in these games are controlled entirely via the background sound board, mounted above the MPU board in the backbox. Some compatibilities between versions:
