Features (see below for more details):- IDC type (Insulation Displacement Connector).
- For 18 gauge wire. Also accepts 16-22 gauge.
- 2-sided: wires can be installed from either side, or run through side-to-side (looped).
- Locking ramp.
Replaces Stern Pinball # 045-5016-00 for J16 power connector at top of Whitestar IO/Power Driver (MPU) board (see game listing below).
IDC housings have built-in terminals, and wires are pressed, or staked into the back of the housing to secure. The wire insulation is displaced when installed, which makes the electrical connection to the terminal in the housing.
Locking Ramp: Locking ramp tabs molded in, which will lock into place on corresponding header pin units with friction lock backing. Can also be installed on housings without friction lock.
Polarizing Keys (Pins): Most connectors will have one position that is blank, which is the key position. This prevents connectors from being installed in the wrong place or direction. New polarizing keys are available separately for this IDC housing.

SUGGESTIONS: If you are replacing this connector on your Stern MPU board, we recommend:- Installing a Molex housing with crimp/solder terminals instead. The Molex design is a much stronger connector that will ensure better electrical connections and outlast the factory IDC housing. Molex housings with crimp/solder terminals require much more time and expertise/finesse to install, but are a much higher quality option.
- Getting rid of the factory fluorescent lamp that sits directly in front of this connector. UV light from the fluorescent tube desiccates the plastic of electrical connectors, wire insulation, and circuit boards/components, and severely decreases their service life. We recommend installing a LED light in place of the fluorescent.
- Using DeOxit anti-oxidant/lubricant to help prevent oxidation and ease removal/installation of connectors.
