EPROM chip with version 3.1 of the MPU board boot software for Stern S.A.M. system games. Installs in chip socket location U9 on the S.A.M. System MPU board in games that use it (see game listing below).This boot flash EPROM chip U9 must be installed on the MPU board when attempting to update game software (code) via the separate USB flash/thumb drive (memory stick) in your machine (see Stern Service Bulletin # 164 for details).
According to Stern Pinball, the 3.1 boot software revision is necessary to enable the Stern SAM MPU board to read all current types of USB flash drives or thumb drives for game software updates.
