24-pin wide DIP chip socket. For chips with 5/8-inch width between chip legs (side-to-side).
Measures 1-3/16 inches long x 11/16 inches wide x 5/16 inches tall (30mm x 17mm x 8mm).
High-quality machined-pin style that provides maximum connection/grip between chip socket and chip legs for reliable long-term performance, and will far out-perform factory original standard low-profile non-machined pin sockets.
Fits ROM/PROM chips 2716, 2732, 2532, 9316, 9332, and 6810 RAM, more.
Replaces Williams # 5A-9004 and similar others.
Always install a chip socket when replacing a non-socketed chip on your circuit boards! A chip socket allows for quick, easy, solder-less removal and replacement for testing or repair in the future, and saves your valuable circuit board from unnecessary soldering heat that can cause damage or shorten its lifespan.
NOTE for Bally/Stern Lamp Driver Boards: Lamp driver boards in early Bally and Stern electronic solid-state (SS) games were not designed for chip sockets. The spacing for the chip legs on these boards is slightly wider than the spacing of legs on a chip socket. This was so Bally/Stern could install chips directly on the board, with the chip legs angled slightly outward, as chips come from many manufacturers (chip legs must have no angle inward/outward when installed in chip sockets). See additional images below for example.
To install a socket such as this one on one of these boards, we recommend either using individual 12-pin SIP sockets for either side of the chip, or cutting the bridging from a 24-pin DIP socket, and installing each side separately, as shown in the additional images below.
